Friar Lawrence is a Franciscan friar in Verona and a trusted confidant of Romeo. Concerned by the feud between the Montague and Capulet houses, he hopes his influence can help the young lovers and bring peace between their families.

An elderly, gentle-faced friar with a lined, thoughtful countenance and a tonsured head, wearing the coarse brown hooded robe and knotted cord of the Franciscan order. He often carries herbs or a basket.
