Pride and PrejudiceAlice was growing very tired of sitting by her sister with nothing to do.
She peeped into her sister’s book, but it had no pictures or conversations.
And what is the use of a book without pictures or conversations?
Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!
Alice started to her feet, burning with curiosity.
Down went Alice after it, never once wondering how she would get out again.
She took down a jar…
Oh dear! Oh dear!
She did not drop the jar for fear of hurting somebody underneath.
Down, down, down. Would the fall never come to an end?
After such a fall, I shall think nothing of tumbling down stairs!
How brave they’ll all think me!
I wouldn’t say anything about it, even if I fell off the top of the house!
I wonder how many miles I’ve fallen by this time?
I must be getting somewhere near the centre of the earth.
That would be four thousand miles down, I think…
…yes, that’s about the right distance. But what Latitude or Longitude have I got to?
I wonder if I shall fall right through the earth!
How funny to come out among people who walk with their heads downward!
Please, Ma’am, is this New Zealand or Australia?
Down, down, down. She landed on a heap of sticks and dry leaves.
Dinah’ll miss me very much to-night!
I hope they’ll remember her saucer of milk at tea‑time.
Do cats eat bats?
Now, Dinah, tell me the truth: did you ever eat a bat?
Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it’s getting!
There were doors all round the hall, but they were all locked.
Suddenly she came upon a little three-legged table of solid glass.
Either the locks were too large, or the key was too small.
Behind it was a little door. She tried the golden key, and it fitted!
She knelt and looked down the passage into the loveliest garden ever.
The bottle was not marked ‘poison’.
She was now only ten inches high.
She could not reach the little golden key.
No, I’ll look first, and see whether it’s marked ‘poison’ or not.
What a curious feeling!
She set to work and very soon finished the cake.
And still she was the same size.
Well, I’ll eat it.
Which way? Which way?
Curiouser and curiouser!
Now I’m opening out like the largest telescope that ever was!
Good-bye, feet!
I’ll give them a new pair of boots every Christmas.
She went on all the same…
Stop this moment, I tell you!
Oh! the Duchess, the Duchess!
Oh! won’t she be savage if I’ve kept her waiting!
If you please, sir…
Who in the world am I?
Ah, that’s the great puzzle!
How doth the little crocodile…
With gently smiling jaws!
I’m sure those are not the right words.
I must be Mabel after all…
How can I have done that?
I must be growing small again.
That was a narrow escape!
And now for the garden!
I wish I hadn’t cried so much!
Something splashed.
Everything is queer to-day!
Mouse, do you know the way out of this pool?
I am very tired of swimming here!
Où est ma chatte?
Oh, I beg your pardon!
I quite forgot you didn’t like cats.
Would you like cats if you were me?
She is such a dear quiet thing…
…she’s such a capital one for catching mice…
Our family always hated cats: nasty, vulgar things!
Don’t let me hear the name again!
