Daggoo is a towering African harpooneer aboard the Pequod, one of the sailors who hunts whales under Captain Ahab. He serves as boat-steerer to the younger harpooneer Flask, carrying himself with a proud, commanding dignity.
A gigantic, coal-black African standing six feet five, erect as a giraffe with a lion-like tread, wearing two enormous golden hoop earrings the sailors call ring-bolts.
