Inside the story
Lord Montague is the head of one of Verona’s two feuding houses and the father of Romeo. At the story’s outset, he stands with his family in the ancient conflict against the Capulets, while trying to understand the sadness that keeps his son apart from others.
A dignified elderly nobleman with greying hair and beard, dressed in the sober rich attire of a Verona patriarch, his face marked by worry for his son.
